1) Add Spacers to the Mac OS X Dock – this is done with a Terminal command that must be executed once for each spacer you want to create. The command is: defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{"tile-type"="spacer-tile";}' Enter that into the command line then hit return. Then hit the up arrow and return again for each additional spacer you want to create, ie: do this 5 times for 5 spacers. Then you must kill the Dock for changes to take effect: killall Dock The spacers can then be moved around like any other Dock icon, just click and drag them.
